Howard Hadley Rice 89, who passed away in Tucson on December 1, 2013, was born in Benton, IL on March 18, 1924, youngest of the twelve children of Marion Lee and Stella Ligon Rice.
One sister, Norma Johnson of IL survives him. Others left to remember him with love are his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth "Beth"; and their children, Howard Jr. (Vicki), Nancy Callicotte (John) and Robert "Bob" (Debby); four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Howard trained and served in the Army Air Corp form 1942-1946, one year in the Occupation forces in Korea and Japan. He and Beth were married in Yuma June 10, 1944.
After discharge he returned to college on the GI Bill and graduated in 1951 from the then Montana School of Mines in Butte as a Mining Engineer. His career with ASARCO, Ranchers Exploration and Development and Phelps Dodge took the family to New Mexico, North Carolina, Nicaragua, CA, Silver Bell and Morenci in Arizona.
Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013 in the Chapel at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 7650 N. Paseo del Norte, Tucson with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers contributions to Alzheimer's Association or Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson would be appreciated.
