Obituary:
Dorothy Joan Raymond, 64, died Thursday (May 22, 1997) at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care in Lebanon, N.H.
She had been a Lebanon resident for most of her life. In 1989, she and her husband retired to Fairlee.
Mrs. Raymond was employed as a seamstress at H.W. Carter & Sons in Lebanon and later at Gilberte Interiors of Hanover, N.H.
She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Lebanon, where she served as a trustee, taught Sunday school, belonged to the Women's Fellowship Group and was the Sunshine Committee Chairman.
Mrs. Raymond had also been a Cub Scout den mother and a member of the Lebanon Women's Bowling League.
She was a member of the Twin State Squares, Twin State Trail Busters Snowmobile Club and the Model A Ford Club of America.
She enjoyed gardening, food preserving, sewing and making clothes for her family, cross country skiing and creating patterns on her knitting machine.
Mrs. Raymond made most important in her life her family and home, which was always open for meals and fellowship.
She was born in Hanover on Nov. 4, 1932, the daughter of Parker K. Cole and Olive T. Gardner.
Mrs. Raymond was a 1950 graduate of Lebanon High School.
On Dec. 8, 1950, she married Lloyd E. Raymond.
Survivors include her husband of Fairlee; one son, Steve Raymond of Lebanon; four daughters, Barbara Merchand of Lebanon, Lois Kenyon of Meriden, Betsy Cheney of West Canaan and Annette Mesler of Depew, N.Y.; three brothers, Arthur Cole of Rye, N.H., Alden Cole of Stamford, Conn., and Walter Cole of West Lebanon; three sisters including her twin, Carolyn Spencer of Groton, Vt., Muriel Cole of West Canaan, N.H., and Sheila Dessert of Lebanon; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one sister, Elizabeth Cole.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon with the Rev. Dale Edwards, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in Lebanon with a reception in Kilburn Hall at the church following the interment.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon.
