Services will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., Saturday, July 26, at 9:00 a.m., for Veda Rose Abadie. Our wonderful and beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend went home on July 19, 2003.

Veda Rose was born to William McDaniel and Blanch Zosel in Salem, Oregon. After the death of her father the family moved to Arroyo Grande. In 1939, she moved to Bakersfield and had resided here ever since. During World War II she worked for Lockheed Aircraft. She was one of many Rosie the Riveters working in the noses of B-17s. Her interest over the years included family, travel, cards, bingo, dancing, gambling and an extensive collection of over 300 assorted elephants, all with their trunks up, for good luck.

Veda Rose was preceded in death by George Abadie, Maude Combs, Jean Bryant, William McDaniel, Thomas McDaniel, Vera McDaniel, Vernon McDaniel, Lawrence Abadie and Tony Isola. Survivors include daughter, Joan Galland and husband, Leonard of Bakersfield, Yvonne Edmondson and husband, Jack of Poway, CA; grandchildren, Mitch Galland and wife, Julie of Bakersfield, Diana Cosgrove and husband, Dan of Henderson, NV, Jeffery Edmondson and wife, Becky of Phoenix, AZ, Mark Edmondson of Poway, CA and Steven Edmondson of San Francisco; great-grandchildrden, Emily and Alex Galland, Danae and Ryan Cosgrove, Tyler and Brennen Edmondson; brother, John Barb Wire John Mantz of Bakersfield; special niece, Linda Hupp of Bakersfield, Sandra Bryant of Colorado, Freda Isola of Huntington Beach; nephews, George Isola of Escondido, CA, Roy McDaniel of Idaho; sisters-in-law, Dorothy McDaniel of Idaho, Rose Sabulka and Doris Danard of Canada and cousins, Ethel Vilhauer and Marianne Stevens of Newport, OR; many great-nieces and nephews.

She had a great joy in life even though she faced poverty, hardships, the Great Depression and the Second World War. She was truly a member of the Greatest Generation.
