Mom was born on February 9, 1923 on Cottonwood, Minnesota. She passed away October 25, 2013 in Lakewood, Washington after a short battle with Alzheimer's and congestive heart failure. She marries Harold Aasland on December 3rd, 1948. She was the 2nd of 3 sisters. She attended Pacific Lutheran University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude at the age of 40, earning a BA in Education. She spent her career teaching in the Franklin Pierce School District as a first-grade teacher, retiring in 1983 after 22 years. They moved to Lakebay, Washington and were involved in the Key Peninsula Lutheran Church and Stephen Ministries. She also volunteered at Evergreen Elementary in the Peninsula School District. She was a talented gardener her entire life. She loved reading, writing children's stories, all types of crafts, birds, and traveling. Later, she was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was charitable, accepting of all people in all walks of life, caring, and very active in her social life. She is survived by her husband Harold and her two children, her two grandchildren, her niece and her brother-in-law.
A celebration of her life will be at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood TODAY, Friday, Nov. 1, at 2:00 pm. All are invited for refreshments at their home after the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer's Association, or The Tacoma Rescue Nission.
