Carole Coyne was born and raised in Wisconsin. As she told her story she was born March 22, 1933 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the ringing of the city's church bells; it was the day prohibition was repealed and beer could again legally be produced.

Her father went three years to University of Wisconsin Medical School, and then became a wonderful Irish story telling salesman; her mother was half Irish and half German. Carole attended elementary school in St Paul, Minnesota. Her high school was St. Robert's in Shorewood (Milwaukee) Wisconsin. Despite her father's death when she was young, she worked to put herself through college graduating with a Journalism/English degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee.

She joined Robert in an everlasting romantic marriage on August 23, 1958 in Milwaukee. Then went with him to his Navy duty station in Norfolk where she taught at the first and only, at the time, desegregated elementary school in Virginia. They moved to Lansing in 1960 with the first of the eight children.

Although she was classified as a stay-at-home mom, she didn't spend all of her time at home. She volunteered for numerous school events, and served as PTO president, Girl Scout leader, summer Bible camp instructor, and room mother. She wrote several plays that were performed by school groups and Girl Scout troops. She gave extensively of her time to her children's schools and to her community. She was an active volunteer in the Lansing schools of Northwestern Elementary, Otto Junior and Sexton High School as well as Lansing Catholic High School.

Carole was very active in her Lansing Catholic church scene, first at St Casmir in Lansing, then St Gerard Parish. Being a religion teacher most of her life was one of here greatest joys.

Carole was an avid reader who used the Delta Township District Library weekly, primarily for fiction books and the mysteries she so loved. She shared her love of books first with her children and later with her grandchildren. She took her own children to the library for story hour and homework research. Years later, she took her grandchildren to the library to pick out books. She so instilled the love of libraries in her children that three of her children and one grandchild worked in libraries. In her position as a RIF coordinator, she distributed countless books to the children of the Lansing area, thus spreading her love of reading with her community.
