Gary was born to Lee and Elsie Ableman on August 27, 1951 in Spokane, WA. As a lifelong Cheney resident, Gary spent his youth participating in many recreational activities. Gary enjoyed playing any sport, but especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He excelled in school and high school sports; including football, basketball, and baseball. He was vice president of the student body at Cheney High School and had many friends. Gary graduated from Cheney High School in 1969. Gary married Linda Lathim in November of 1983. As Gary continued his education, he and Linda became the proud parents of Shane and Shantel. Following his bachelor's degree from Eastern Washington University, Gary became the Recreation Director of the City of Othello, later he transferred to a recreation position at Lakeland Village. Most recently Gary was employed with the West Central Community Center. Gary had a passion for the developmentally disabled.
Gary is survived by his wife Linda; and their children Shane and Shantel Ableman all of Cheney. He is also survived by his brothers Steve of Spokane and Todd of Cheney. Survivors also include his nieces, Mackenzie and Samie as well as nephews Keven, Chase, Drew and Cody. Many great-nieces and nephews also survive him. Gary also leaves many lifelong friends.
