Lester E. Abbott age 92 passed away Thursday October 24, 2013 at Silvercrest in Anamosa.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 Friday November 8, 2013 at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. A Masonic service will be held at 7pm following the visitation. Burial will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery November 9 at 10:30am.
He is survived by a daughter Karen (Mike) Dulaney of Cedar Rapids; a son Jim Abbott of Columbus, Ohio; 3 grandchildren Kimberly (BJ) Trickey of Cedar Rapids, Tom (Amy) Abbott of Glendale, Wisconsin and Andrew Abbott of Columbus, Ohio; 2 great granddaughters Lauren and Taylor Abbott of Glendale, Wisconsin; He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Irma; son Richard; 2 children in infancy, Betty(113418816)
and Billy (113418614); 2 sisters, four brothers and daughter-in-law Sally Abbott.
Lester was born March 30, 1921 in Mount Auburn, Iowa. He was the son of Perry and Grace Simmons Abbott. He was a graduate of Mount Auburn High School. Lester married Irma Margaret Reiss on April 27, 1938 in Lancaster, MO.
Lester was a member of Ancient Landmark Masonic Lodge No. 200, Olin, Iowa. He was also a member of most Masonic organizations in Eastern Iowa. He was past president of the then named Association of Retarded Children and was very active in that organization and related groups. Lester farmed for many years in the Morley and Anamosa area and was retired from the USDA Soil Conservation Service.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff at Silvercrest and to Above and Beyond Hospice.
