Opal Louise Taliaferro was born in Mabank, Texas on October 22, 1918 to Ed and Adrie Dyer Carruthers. Opal passed away in a Kaufman, Texas hospital on October 27, 2013. Opal moved to Rosser, Texas as an infant where she was raised and a lifetime resident of Rosser. She was a dietitian for the Scurry-Rosser Schools for ten years before becoming the postmaster of the Rosser U. S. Post Office for over forty years. Opal was an honorary member of the FFA of Rosser and also the Rosser Volunteer Fire Department. Opal was also a member of the Scurry Church of Christ. In September of 1934 Opal married Ben Wylie Taliaferro in the Cottonwood Community. Her husband Ben preceded Opal in death and she is survived by her sons: Wylie Taliaferro and his wife Betty of Rosser and George Taliaferro and his wife Nita of Cottonwood, eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
