John was born in Herkimer, NY on June 3, 1947, a son of the late Earl J. and Helen (Pratt) Abeline. He proudly served his country in the US Army for 23 years, until his retirement in 1992.
John returned to the Herkimer area after many years abroad in the Army, and began working for the Herkimer County Sheriff's Office and Fire Department. He made his home in Burdett for a number of years, and for the past three years, lived in Romulus. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending as much time as he could in the great outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Susan of Romulus; a son, Kyle (Erika) Abeline of Willard and their daughters, Lexi and Bella; a sister, Micke Null of Herkimer; his stepchildren, Kevin Snyder of Avon, NY and Jill Snyder of Cromwell, MD and a step-granddaughter, Crystal Snyder.
The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid, from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Saturday, November 2, 2013. Military honors will observed by the family at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus.
