Civil War Union Army Officer. He entered his Civil War service with a commission of Captain and commander of Company A, 46th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, a nine-months enlistment regiment. Promoted to Major of the unit, he served with it during its operations in North Carolina, and was mustered out in July 1863 upon the expiration of his terms of enlistment.
