Jan P. Winter McKay, 54, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, after a brief illness. A former Freeport resident, she currently made her home in Delray Beach, Florida.

Jan was born April 26, 1955, in Freeport, she was the daughter of James A. and Frances P. (Myers) Winter. She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ.

Jan graduated from Freeport High School in 1973 and attended Highland Community College and the University of Wisconsin. She owned and operated a Bixby Bagel Franchise in Geneva, Ill. Jan enjoyed working with the public in the retail environment and over the years had worked for Marshall Fields, Neiman Marcus and Burdines of Florida.

Jan had great love for her family and enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. She loved spending time outside in the sunny weather and was an avid golfer.

She is survived by her former husband, Dr. Phil Mckay; her brothers, Mark Andrew (Beth) Winter, and James Douglas (Sherry) Winter; her sister, Teresa Lynn (Darrell Laszewski) Winter; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Sarah Ann (Chris) Whelan, Scott Andrew (Andrea Schultz) Winter, Steven Mark Winter, and Shelby Logan Winter. She is also survived by her great-nephew and -niece, Henry and Cora Winter; her aunt and uncle, Henry (Corky) and Virginia Winter; and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Frances Winter.

A private family service will be held on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. interment will be in Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum, Freeport.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name. Donations may be sent c/o Winter and Associates, 320 N. Park Blvd., Freeport, IL, 61032.
