Marvin D. Aasen, 75, a 45-year resident of Severna Park, died of cancer Jan. 22 at his home.

Born in Velva, N.D., Mr. Aasen was a 1947 graduate of Minot High School. He received a degree in electrical engineering in 1953 from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. In 1973, he received a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Johns Hopkins University.

He served in the Army Air Force as a radar repair technician from 1947 to 1950.

A certified professional engineer, he was employed with the former Westinghouse Corp. in Baltimore from 1953 to 1961 and at the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute Compatibility Analysis Center in Annapolis from 1961 to 1994. He also was a consultant to the defense industry in radar and electronic systems.

A member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Severna Park, he was one of the founders of the Ancient Order of Old Geezers, a group of retirees.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Yvonne Babitzke Aasen; five children, Anna Aasen Huso of Hardin, Mont., Wyatt Aasen of Pittsburgh, Pa., Chris "Stuart" Aasen of Miami Lakes, Fla., Curtis Aasen of Norfolk, Va., and Willis Aasen of Owings Mills; two brothers, Ernest Aasen of Moorhead, Minn., and Donald Aasen of Los Altos, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Anna Strate Aasen; two brothers, Mahlon and Gordon Aasen; and a granddaughter, Louise Huso.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Our Shepherd Church, with burial to follow in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.
