Pfc. Cody J. Patterson, 24, of Philomath, Ore., died Oct. 6, in Zhari District, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, at Fort Benning, Ga. Cody is survived by his father, Randall Patterson; mother, Nancy Wilson; sisters, Nicole Patterson, Letitia Williams, Taylor Patterson and Mara Wilson; brothers, Elijah Williams and Kapriel Wilson; grandparents, Lucy and John Leach; grandfather, James Patterson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at LaSells Stewart Center, 875 S.W. 26th St., Corvallis. Cody planned to continue his education after his military obligation. To honor his plan, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Cody Patterson Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of OSU Federal Credit Union, so Cody can help others.
