NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 12 - Mrs. Ada Bonner Leboeuf and Dr. Thos. R. Dreher, sentenced to die on the gallows Saturday at Franklin, Friday were granted a 13 day stay of execution by the Louisiana Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court denied a plea for the appointment of a lunacy commission to determine the present sanity of the slayers of James J. Leboeuf, the woman's husband, but granted the stay of execution to permit defense attorneys to file the application for a rehearing.
The Supreme Court today received the answer of Judge Jame D. Simon in the contention of attorneys for Mrs. Leboeuf and Dr. Dreher that he should have appointed a lunacy commission to determine the sanity of the two slayers.
Judge simon, who presided at the trial of the slayers of James Leboeuf, ruled Friday that the condemned pair are sane.
In his answer to the defense attorneys' contention the the woman and phusician are insane, Judge Simon said:
"I have not the slightest doubt that the accused have been and are now sane."
