Gustav was born July 27, 1908, north of Hazen, to Fredrick and Christina (Kuch) Adolf. He was raised and educated on the farm, 12 miles north of Hazen. On October22, 1932, he married Erna Radke in Hazen. They farmed with his father until 1936, when they moved to Oregon, where they worked various jobs. In 1939, they moved to Sydney, MT., where they worked the sugar beets and threshing. In 1940 they moved to Hazen and Gust worked at the Huber Garage for one year. In 1941, they returned to the farm and farmed there until 1975, when they retired and moved in to Hazen.
Gust was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, where he served as a Deacon for a time. He was also a member of the German Community Singers. Gust also enjoyed building cabinets.
He is survived by his wife, Erna of Beulah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond & Hertha Adolf, Bismarck, and Leonard "William" and Esther Adolf, Williston; two daughters and sons -in-law, Marcella and Alvin Knell, Hazen and Darlene and Elmer Miessel, Dodge; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; seven brothers; one sister; two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
