George William Powers 42,
of East Robinson Ave.
A broker for the California
cotton sales company died
yesterday in a local hospital
after a six-month illness.
A native of St. Louis Missouri
Powers had lived in Fresno
since 1947. He was a member of
St. John's Cathedral parish and
the Fresno cotton exchange.
He was a graduate of Christian
Brothers College in Memphis
Tennessee where he was reared.
He worked in the cotton business
in Memphis until he entered the
Air Force during World War II.
He returned to Memphis after the
war for short time before coming
to Fresno. Powers is survived by
his widow Mrs. Gertrude F. Powers
two daughters, Juliann and Lois
Marie and a son Thomas L., All of
Fresno his mother Mrs. Julia Powers
of Memphis, a sister Mary Helen
Powers of Memphis and a brother
John J. Powers of Memphis.
The Rosary will be recited tonight
at 7 o'clock in the Sullivan, Burns
and Blair Funeral Chapel. The
requiem mass will be celebrated
tomorrow at 9 AM in St. John's
Cathedral. Burial will be in the
Holy Cross Cementery.
