Saddened by the death of Mrs. Gertrude B. Whitney on June 3, 1963 are her many neighbors and friends. Born in East Ashford, NY on May 27 1880, Mrs. Whitney moved early in her life to Machias, N.Y. where she graduated from Machias High School.
She attended a teachers training class at Delevan, N.Y. and after graduation, taught for several years in both Pennsylvania and New York State. On June 30, 1914, her marriage to Ralph O. Whitney took place in Machias and the couple moved to the Town of Wheatland where they spent 27 years on their farm on the corner of North Road and Wheatland Center Road and 23 years at their home at 711 Browns Road. Services were held on Thursday, June 6 at 2 p.m. from the Cameron Funeral Home in Scottsville. The Rev. Vern Dunham, nephew of the Whitneys from Lorraine, Ohio officiated with the Rev. Marvin of the Clifton Baptist Church assisting. Interment at Oakta Cemetery. Surviving Mrs. Whitney are her husband, Ralph O.; her son, Paul A. of South Road; two grandsons, Ralph and Donald; plus many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Whitney died in Rochester following a brief illness. She had belonged to the Genesee Grange Baptist Church for nearly 50 years.
