Fatal Accident
Royce Dunlap the four year old son of Wm. Dunlap living about three miles south-east of Shannon City was killed Saturday forenoon by a team running away and dragging a harrow over him. He had gone out into the field to carry water to his brother who was harrowing in a field about a quarter of a mile from the house, and his brother having finished this work and being ready to start for the house, Royce climbed up onto one of the horses to ride home. By some means the horses became scared and ran away throwing the boy off and dragging the harrow over him breaking his ankle and crushing his skull. His brother a boy eleven years old picked him up and carried him to the house, where he died almost at once, breathing only a few times after reaching the house.
His parents were absent at Shannon City at the time of the accident but his grand--parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Stevenson were at the house. The older boy on getting his brother to the house started at once to Shannon for the doctor, and met his parents on their way home.
The funeral took place from the house at 3 o'clock on Sabbath, the interment being at Eugene cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. McCab, pastor of the U. P. church at Shannon City. Royce was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Dunlap, being four years old last July. The greif stricken parents and brothers have the sympathy of the entire community in their sudden afflication.
