Dana's early years were spent in southern Texas, Kansas, and northern Missouri while her dad traveled building post offices. When Dana was five years old, Lowell and Fannie bought their family farm west of Nixa and built a house so Dana could attend Nixa School and be close to family. Dana attended all twelve years at Nixa, graduating from high school there. She attended Drury College in Springfield and graduated with a degree in social work.
After that, Dana spent her entire life helping others both personally and professionally. She worked as a juvenile officer for multiple counties from 1965 until 1969, was executive director of the YWCA in Springfield for a time, worked as a social worker in the prison system of Missouri, and as a medical social worker at Doctor's Hospital, Park Central Hospital, and Community Hospital in Springfield.
In 1985, Dana helped start her own business of operating assisted living facilities and worked as a social worker in those facilities until her death.
Dana was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by several cousins and many, many friends.
Dana always tried to help others and fix their problems, putting others before herself. Dana loved to garden, read, travel and collect antiques. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Dana's special friends, Glenda Stein and Kenny and Linda Rogers, give special thanks to all the family and friends who offered support through prayer, visits, phone calls, food and sitting with Dana during her illness. A special thanks also to Dr. Grisalano for the compassionate care and concern he provided Dana.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Hosea Bilyeu officiating.
