Helen Virginia McNeel, Greenfield, Mo. departed this life on Nov. 30. 2001, in Cox Medical Center South at the age of 77.
She was born on April 15, 1924, in Dorchester, Ill. to Henry and Lois (Dillard) Heyen. On Feb. 28, 1949, Helen was united in marriage to Dr. Lee Andrew McNeel, Jr., who preceded her in death on May 26, 1982. To this union three children were born, Joseph Henry, David Andrew and Mary Lee.
Helen attended Missouri Baptist School of Nursing in St. Louis, where she became a registered nurse. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the McNeel Clinic. Helen was a member of the First Christian Church and Head of the Membership Committee of the Church Board. She loved singing in the church choir and enjoyed being a part of "Friends of Music."
She was a member of the Springfield Literary and Civic Club, Missouri Angus Association -- Ladies Auxiliary, and the University of Missouri Columbia Alumni Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lois Heyen; and her husband, Dr. Lee Andrew McNeel, Jr.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Henry McNeel, Springfield; and David Andrew McNeel and wife, Diana, St. Louis; one daughter, Mary Lee Fox and husband, Mike, Leawood, Kan.; one brother, Harold Heyen and wife, Lynn, Gillespie, Ill.; two sisters, Doris Clark and husband, Everett, Itasca, Ill. and Maxine Young and husband, Alex, Gillespie, Ill.; four grandchildren, Andrew McNeel age 8, Jessica McNeel age 7, both of St. Louis, Mo., Taylor Fox, age 8, and Tanner Fox age 4, both of Leawood, Kan.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 pm Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in the Greenfield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gene Clack, Rev. Harold Mayes, and Rev. Noland Cramer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm today in the funeral chapel. Donations may be given to the First Christian Church.
Services are under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
