Robert H. Foster was born in Cavan County, Ireland. His parents were Francis and Alice Foster. They lived on a 12 acre farm in the Townland of Tideehan, Parish of Crosserlough, Cavan County, Ireland. He immigrated to Ontario, Canada sometime between 1831 and 1852. He married Eliza Blackstock at St. John's Anglican Church in Ida on May 27th, 1852. They had a farm in Arran, Bruce, Ontario. Robert and Eliza were the parents of nine children - eight sons, and one daughter. After twenty-four years of marriage, they parted ways, circumstances unknown. Robert immigrated to Lamotte, Sanilac, Michigan with his 14 year old son, Josiah Howard around 1876 . He and Josiah Howard, obtained farm land in Sanilac County. He farmed in Sanilac county for 18 years before he died of liver and kidney problems. He was 74 years, 5 months, and 10 days of age.
