Wallace Warren Shaffer was the oldest son of Clarence William "Red" Shaffer (1894 - 1945) and only son of Elsie Alma Osborn Shaffer (1892 - 1936), being born on 24 Feb 1926. He married Elma Fay Beal, a triplet, (1925 - 2005), on his birthday, 24 Feb 1945. Wallace's father and uncle were identical twins.
Five children were born of this union: Donald Raymond, a twin, (1946 - 1946), Ronald Richard, a twin, (1946 - ), Carolyn Gale (1948 - ), William Wright (1952 - ) and Nancy Jane (1956 - ).
On 22 Feb 1944, Wallace entered active duty in the United States Navy and was on the USS Alabama in the Pacific Theater during WWII. On 15 Jan 1946, he was honorably discharged.
His first two children were born in Fort Scott, Kansas, after which the family moved to Colorado, where his other three children were born and all were raised. He retired after nearly 40 years, from the Colorado Fuel and Iron, Corp. in 1984. He and his wife, Elma, returned to Fort Scott, which they both called, "home" until his death in 1997.
