He is survived by his wife, Julie; two sons, Tony Ray Norton of Rockport, Tennessee and Richard Glenn Norton of Modesto; one daughter, Kimberly Jayne Hixon and her husband, Derik of Valencia, California; sister, Virginia C. Nelson of Albany, Oregon; and four grandchildren.
Mr Norton worked as a maintenance mechanic at Kraft General Foods from where he retired after almost 30 years.
Richard loved to tell people of his career in the Navy and the Seabees, especially about his experiences flying in the Chinook helicopters.
He also loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting. He took great pride when he received his pilot's license and convinced his wife to do the same. Richard and Julie spent many happy weekend flying to small airports and camping at air shows.
He loverd to play the stock market and he always would tell you to "Buy Lowes."
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 17, 2013 from 2:00 to 8:00PM at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 West Main Street, Turlock, California.
Services will be Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 2:00PM.
Interment will be at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 West McCabe Road, Gustine, California.
Arrangements are under the direction of Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Service.
