ARTHUR LAVERN "ART" LANG
May 30, 1926-September 3, 2013

Arthur Lavern "Art" Lang of DuBois, was born on May 30, 1926 in DuBois, NE to Jesse E. and Anna L. "Lizzie" (Hecht) Lang. At the age of 5 months his family moved to the family farm southwest of Humboldt. He attended grade school nearby at Union Dale District 66. Art graduated from Humboldt High School in 1944.

Art married Anna Rose Meyer on March 3, 1945 in Hiawatha, KS.

Art was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 20, 1945 at Ft. Leavenworth, KS and was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA with Company "C" 349th Engineer Battalion. He was a master blacksmith. Art was a permanent member of DuBois American Legion Post #39 where he served as commander for over 22 years. He also served as commander of the Pawnee County American Legion for 7 years and was a past officer of the Veteran's Service Office in Pawnee County.

Art was the treasurer for the DuBois Rural Fire District from 1960 thru 2010. He was the current historian/treasurer of the Czech National Cemetery. He served as secretary for many years of the Pawnee County Democratic Party. Art was an avid historian of DuBois history and family genealogy. He also served on the school board of District 15 grade school northeast of the farm where he and Ann resided for 65 years.

Art owned Arthur Lang Construction Company for over 50 years where he operated a bulldozer, motor grader and other heavy equipment building waterways, terraces, roadways, watershed projects, dams and clearing timber over a 50 mile radius.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in DuBois where he served on the building maintenance committee for several years.

Art loved to play cards, shoot snooker, fish, watch Husker football on t.v. and tell stories to his grandkids.

He passed away at the Pawnee County Hospital in Pawnee City on September 3, 2013.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Anna Rose of DuBois; children, Ardis Ough and husband Ray of Beatrice, Arden Lang and wife Samantha of Las Vegas, NV and Anita Bents and husband Don of Pawnee City; 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and his sidekick, Maggie the dog.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ella Marie Hunzeker (1-5-1935); oldest son Allen Leon Lang (3-23-1998) and grandson Gregory Allen Lang (8-7-1970).

A Celebration of Life service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at the DuBois United Methodist Church with Rev. Sherry Sklenar, Rev. Duane Westing and Rev. Ken Tubbesing officiating. Pallbearers were all of his grandchildren.

Interment was in the Czech National Cemetery, rural Humboldt with full military honors by the DuBois American Legion Post #39.
