Born in Reading Township to George Ray and Mabel Olive (Extrom) McFadden. He married Phyllis Lee Gelbert on June 6, 1948, at Park Presbyterian Church.
He was a 1938 graduate of Streator High School and a graduate of the Life Insurance Marketing Institute at Purdue University.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps prior to World War II, completed pilot training at Luke Air Field, Arizona. He was stationed at Las Vegas Army Air Field Gunnery School for three years and then served in the Pacific with the 20th Air Force with a B-29 crew stationed Guam. Following his discharge in 1946, he was a self-employed trucker and served four years as Reading Township Highway Commissioner.
He joined the Reinecke Agency and then operated MCFadden Realty with his wife until his retirement. Until 2005, he was a broker associate with Hart Realty.
He was a lifelong member of Park Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon, trustee, elder, Sunday school teacher and on numerous committees.
He also was a past president of Streator Kiwanis, a lifelong member of Streator Elks Lodge, where he served as chairman of the Crippled Children's Clinic for more than 35 years.
He also was a member of Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217, VFW Post 1492, served as Eagle Township trustee and represented them as a member of the LaSalle County Board.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Marla of Madison, Wis., and Benna (Michael) Hermanson of Arlington Heights; two grandchildren, Ann Elizabeth and Severin Robert Hermanson, and a brother Dean of Streator.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and George.
