Athens - Theodore Carroll (T.C.) DeVore died on Saturday November 11, Veterans Day, at 11 AM. Son of the late Theodore Carroll & Kathleen Garrett DeVore, T.C. was born September 12, 1924 in Ninety-Six, South Carolina. He attended schools in Ninety-Six & Volunteered for service in the Army in 1943, his sophomore year at the Citadel. He received the Silver Star & an ETO ribbon with five bronze stars during his service to our country. After WWII he met & married Helen Rollins, also from Ninety-Six. In 1950 they moved to Athens, where he opened DeVore & Johnson Inc. with his business partner, Cecil L. Johnson.

T.C. served many organizations in his fifty seven years in Athens. He was President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, President of the Kiwanis Club, Chairman of the Athens General Hospital Authority, Executive board member of Sun Trust Bank & a board member of Athens Federal, Cedar Creek, Athens YMCA, Salvation Army, Athens-Clarke Community Chest, Athens Little League, Athens Touchdown Club & was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens. T.C. is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen & his children & their spouses Kathy & Bob Whitehead, Sautee, Ga., Ted & Valerie DeVore, Athens, Ga., Cristie & Stephen Garrett, Gainesville, Ga., Mike & Betty DeVore, Athens, Ga., his grandchildren & their spouses Jason & Elizabeth Whitehead, Denver CO., Monica & Travis Elrod, Athens, Ga., Kris & Amy Stackhouse Whitehead, Seattle, WA., Callie, Mandy & Russ DeVore, Athens, Ga. & his great grandchildren McKenzie & Sydney Elrod & Jack Whitehead. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, November 14th, at the Athens First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jon Appleton & Dr. Glenn Doak officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, November 13th, from 5-7 PM at Bernstein. The family asks that in lieu of flowers for contributions to the Athens YMCA, 915 Hawthorne Ave., Athens, Ga. 30606 or the Athens First Presbyterian Church, 185 East Hancock Ave, Athens, Ga. 30601.
