My Uncle Hugh Ellis was born in Lebanon County Tennessee, on 7 August 1906 according to his delayed birth certificate which he applied for in 1967. He was one of three sons to Leonidas Cleburne Cantrell and Armina [ Nick name Minnie ] Thompson. He and his father and two other brothers lived in Tennessee until 1929 when their mother, Armina passed away in Nashville Tennessee. He, along with his father and two brothers, then moved to Chicago Illinois, Cook County where most of his education was attended in Illinois schools. He finished the 8th grade and finished 1 yr of high school, so his Military papers state.
He entered Military service, enlisting in Camp Sheridan Illinois, in 3 December 1943 into the U.S Army. There he served with the rank of PFC, and was given awards and ribbons for his military actions, including the Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooters with Rifle, Ribbons for serving in the European, South Africa and Eastern Theaters. He was Honorably discharged at Camp Grant Illinois on 3 November 1945.

He was Married to Lillian Carolina Williams. Together they had five children:

[3] Clara E. Cantrell, 1935- 2006
[4] Noel I. Cantrell, 1938- 2018
[5] Colvard Cantrell, 1936-1939

He worked as a commercial artist for an advertising firm in Chicago Illinois, and in the late 1960's moved his wife and family to Marquette Michigan. He was known for being a heavy smoker, and drinker whom later died from Lung Cancer. [ Source taken from his death certificate # 397 of the state file in Michigan ] He is buried at Park Cemetery in Marquette Michigan, as per his death certificate.

Lillian is also deceased as of 1978. After their divorce, she married her cousin Edward H. Williams, and together they lived in Michigan, until they deaths. Her and Edward died one day apart. She died 27 October 1978, and Edward died the following day, on 28 October 1978.
