James William Fortune, 93, of Morning Sun, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Park Place, Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Fortune was born August 16, 1920 in Dallas, Iowa, the son of Charles and Mary Cornwell Fortune. On January 12, 1942 he married Laura Ruth Fortune in Kahoka, Missouri. She died November 15, 2008. He was a retired farmer and an Army veteran of the World War II. He was a 50 year member of the Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club, and a member of the Yarmouth Coffee Club. He enjoyed old antique cars, flower gardening, playing cards, and pie. He was of the Christian faith.
Mr. Fortune is survived by one son, Ron (Shelly) Fortune of Yarmouth; two daughters, Katherine (Jerry) Schulze of Mt. Pleasant and Susan (Randy) Nelson of Sperry; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Truman (Dolly) Fortune of Olathe, Kansas and Kenneth (Miriam) Fortune of Rapids City, South Dakota; and one sister, Thelma Weaver of Mediapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Dennis, and one sister Leona.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Jeff Kodis will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union.
