Thomas M. DiStasio, 52, of Waymart, died at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, following a lengthy, courageous battle against cancer.

He is survived by his wife, the former Linda Drob. They would have celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary on Sept. 6.

Born to the late Vincent and Joan Moss DiStasio. A graduate of Salisbury High School in Allentown, he attended East Stroudsburg University and Marywood University and received a degree in journalism. He was most recently employed at the Wayne Independent in Honesdale, working on various news assignments including court reporter. Previously, he was employed at the News Eagle in Hawley and also worked for The Times-Tribune of Scranton as a correspondent in the Wayne County Bureau. A loyal Cubs fan, Tom was involved in local theatre productions and was an avid Bullwinkle collector. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, Waymart.

Also surviving are a sister, Barbara Bubnis, Bethlehem; a niece, Laura Bubnis, Bethlehem; two nephews, Michael Bubnis, Bethlehem, and Douglass Drob, Alexandria, Va.; a great-niece, Melody Drob; aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Mary's Church, celebrated by the Rev. John Albosta, pastor.
