Residence: Robeson County, NC; a 19 year-old clerk.
Enlisted on 2/8/1862 in Lumberton, Robeson County, NC, he traveled to Camp Mangum, NC, where on 4/16/1862 he was mustered into Captain Richard M. Norment's Company, 46th North Carolina Infantry, as 4th Sergeant. (This company subsequently became Company A, 46th North Carolina Infantry.)
Present on all Rolls from enlistment until Mortally Wounded In Action 9/17/1862 in Battle of Sharpsburg, MD.

The 46th North Carolina Infantry Regiment, organized in March, 1862, at Camp Magnum, near Raleigh, North Carolina, contained men recruited in the counties of Robeson, Rowan, Burke, Warren, Richmond, Granville, Moore, Randolph, Sampson, and Catawba.
This regiment reported 5 killed and 60 wounded during the Maryland Campaign.
