Evelyn was born to Charles Everett and Myrtle Irene Billingsly Gray. She moved to Lawrence in 1967. She was a professional cook at Alpha Phi Sorority, Sirloin Club, Don's Steakhouse, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and Naismith Hall at Kansas University. She retired in 1992. She was a member of T.O.P.S. club and Central United Methodist Church of Lawrence. She married Lester Barnes on July 30, 1950, in Hutchinson. They divorced in 1981, and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1997. She is survived by a daughter, Jamie Blaylock, two sons, Kevin and Randy, a brother, Charles "Chuck" Gray, Jr., a sister, Novella Millikan, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Charles, in 1962. Services; 2pm, Sunday, August 28th, 2005, at Central United Methodist Church in Lawrence. She donated her body to KU Med Center in Kansas City with inurnment at a later date.
