He was born April 10, 1920, in Chatham, the son of William and Katie Kreis Schmidt. He married Helen A. Molohon on Nov. 22, 1944; she died in 1976.
Mr. Schmidt lived in the Sherman and Williamsville area since 1946 and was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of St. John Vianney Church, a U.S. Army Air Force vereran serving in World War II, life member of VFW Post 3024 and life member of American Legion Post 2910.
Survivors: three sons, Joseph W. Schmidt of Buffalo, Michael E. Schmidt of Elkhart and John L. Schmidt of Sherman; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and newphews.
Services: Mass, 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. JOhn Vianney Church, the Rev. Eugene Costa officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery.
