Vernon L. Weis passed away Monday. August 12, at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born Sept. 3, 1935 in Glendale. He was preceded in death by his father. Elmer, mother, Sarah (Drake), and eight brothers. He is survived by a brother, Gary, Salina, daughter, Lorraine (Butch) of Hoyt, son, Vernon David (Sandy), of Hedville, son, Lee (Amy) of Falun, son, Barry (Lisa) of Salina, and the mother of his children, Wilma Weis, Salina. Mr. Weis was the proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Weis established Vern Weis Quality Homes in 1963 in Salina and was a respected residential builder while developing many Salina neighborhoods during his 50 years in business. He was actively building and refining his craft until his sudden death. During his career he served as a leader in the home construction business while serving as past president to both the state of Kansas and Salina Home Builders Association. He was known and respected for his reputation for detail and quality, which kept him busy until his dying day. He enjoyed attending athletic events and was an avid fan of Kansas Wesleyan University and Kansas State University sports teams.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday. August 15, at Emmanuel Christian Center. 1325 E. Cloud St.. Salina. Burial will follow in the Gypsum Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow for family members at Emmanuel Christian Center. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Ryan Mortuary from noon until 8:00 pm where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm. Memorials are suggested to the Kansas Wesleyan Athletic Field Project in Mr. Weis' memory.
