ROCK ISLAND - Services for John T. Herrera, Rock Island, will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island. The Rev. Larry Morlan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Military services will be conducted by East Moline VFW Post 8890. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A rosary will be conducted there at 4 p.m. Mr. Herrera died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at his home. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Services as a mail carrier for 23 years. He retired Jan. 2, 1980. He was born July 3, 1920, in Davenport, the son of Primo and Basilisa (Torrez) Herrera. He married Frances M. Mendoza on March 5, 1949, in Rock Island. He was a member of East Moline VFW Post 8890 and Letter Carriers Association and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island. Mr. Herrera was a World War II veteran. He served in the U.S. Navy. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Food Pantry. Survivors include his wife, Frances; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie Ann and Kevin Lyle, Colona, Ill.; sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew and Kathleen Herrera, Peoria, Ill., and David and Grace Herrera, LeClaire, Iowa; his mother, Basilisa Herrera, Davenport; sisters, Angela Arguello, Davenport, and Annie Ramirez, Davenport; brother, Marce Herrera, Bettendorf; four grandchildren, David, Jason, DeMetrio Juan and Andrea; and two great-grandchildren, Marissa and Shelby. He was preceded in death by a sister, Aurora Hernandez; and his father.
