M. Marie Ryals was born in the old mill town of Ceylon, near Satilla Bluff in Camden County, Georgia and lived most of her 99 years on St Simons Island,GA. Her grandchildren all called her MeMa, she was loving, witty and sharp as a tack right up to the end. She loved the Atlanta Braves, never missed an episode of Young and the Restless and we will all remember her big poster of Tom Selleck on the refrigerator door. She made the best sweet tea that no one has been able to duplicate.

Her mother was Priscilla Faulkner (Lizzy P Ribron in Palmetto Cemetery records)
Her father was Christopher Columbus Ryals
She was married to Euston Clements Chitty and they had 5 children:
Wade E Chitty
Maurice C Chitty (Reese)
Katherine C Chitty Wiggins
Christie Ann Chitty Manry
William Allen Chitty
She had 10 grandchildren at the time of her passing.

She was so proud to be 99 years old and she would tell everybody she met while siting on the St Simons pier or "picnicking under the tables" at the two large live oaks in front of the casino. She so wanted to make it to 100. Though her mind was sharp her poor bones could no longer hold her tall frame (she was 5'10") and she passed peacefully at The Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick with her loving family by her side. It was the only time she ever left the island in countless years, she wouldn't even leave for approaching hurricanes. Godspeed MeMa.
