Joseph L. Skowronek was born March 18, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio, one of eight children of Michael "Mike" Skowronek and Frances (nee Gajewski). He died of cancer, July 7, 2012, at home in Toledo at age 89, survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann.

Joe attended St. Hedwig Elementary and Woodward High School and worked in the family meat and grocery business, Skowronek's Superette on Chestnut and Bronson Streets in North Toledo. He was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran, enlisting Jan 29, 1942 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana at age 18. After the war, Joe was co-owner with his brothers of several successful family enterprises: Supreme Market, Skowronek's Market, Supreme and Skowonek's Bowling Establishments, Yorkshire and Concord Banquet Halls. Family was the central focus of his life; he was a devoted companion to his wife and a loving father to his children and he was known for his integrity, loyalty, and generosity. He loved bowling, dancing, playing cards, rooting for the Cleveland Indians, watching the Lawrence Welk Show, and listening to Polka Party on Sunday mornings. Joe was a long-standing active member of Christ the King Catholic Church and ushered for almost 40 years. He was also a member of VFW Post 5530, Catholic War Veteran Post 639, American Legion Post 545, the Polish Falcons, and the Knights of Columbus.

Ray's 2nd wife, Gloria Sparagowski Skowronek (nee Chiaverini) was born March 31, 1924 in Toledo, one of ten children of Joseph & Mary (Monesanto) Chiaverini. She died Sept 12, 2001 in a Sylvania nursing home at age 77, a US Army veteran who had attended 5+ years of college.
