Melvin Wayne Barnes, Sr., was born, February 1, 1929 to Frazier and
Olgalee Barnes in Hockley, Texas as the sixth of seven children, five
boys and two girls.

He recently celebrated his 90th birthday with his family. He attended
High School in the Houston Independent School District. He left
Houston and moved to Tomball, Texas at an early age where he met and
married the "love of his life," Mardean Benjamin. To this union seven
boys were born, Brian Keith, Michael Kevin, Melvin Jr, Darrell, Mark,
John Charles and Wesley. They were married for 48 years, until Mardean
proceeded him in death. Melvin was baptized into Christ later in his
life, at the age of 64; he attended various Churches of Christ (Scenic
Woods, Gulf Coast, Laura Koppe and Shady Acres) in the Houston area.
In his early years, he worked as a dairy farmer, pup logger and a
salesperson. In 1974, he began his career at Roadway Freight (YRC),
where he served as Union Shop Steward Representative. Melvin was a
dedicated employee with remarkable work ethics; he would often arrive
to work an hour before his shift started. He enjoyed hunting,
shopping, playing dominoes, cards and baseball, his favorite team was
the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Melvin is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters and
son: Lavander Barnes, CJ Barnes, John Barnes, David Barnes, Velma
Mosley, Ollie Graves and John Wayne Barnes. The legacy of memories he
leaves will be cherished by his loving children, Dorothy Walls Jackson
(Earl), Brian Keith Barnes (Pat), Michael Kevin Barnes (Carol), Melvin
Barnes, Jr (Teresa), Darrell Barnes (Pam), Mark Barnes, John Charles
Barnes (Daphne), Wesley Barnes (Jennifer), Twenty-one grandchildren;
