Lawrence D. Bower, Sr.
Macon, GA- Lawrence D. Bower, Sr., 81, of Twiggs County, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013.
Mr. Bower was the son of the late Bishop W. Bower Sr. and the late Dorothy Bower. He was preceded in death by his son, Charlie Bower and his great-grandson Connor Bower. He is survived by his three sons, Larry Bower (Pat) of Kittery, Maine, Johnny Bower (Debbie) of Macon and Art Bower (Nancy) of Macon. Grandchildren, David Sherman of Spokane, Washington, Bo Bower and Crystal Bower of Kittery, Maine, Andy Bower of Macon, John Bower of Gray, Tabathia Brown of Gray, Melissa Thompson of Gordon and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, George V. Bower of Milledgeville, Bishop W. Bower Jr. of Clark Ridge, Arkansas, Bobbie Jean Afincao of Melbourne, Florida, Mary Dunlap of Crawfordville, Florida, Becky Whitter of Clayton, Georgia and Jim Bower of Erin, Tennessee. He is also survived by his former wife and longtime friend, Katie Bower of Columbus, Georgia.
At the age of 13 Mr. Bower lost his arm and part of his face helping his family saw timber on the family property. He rose above these and many more adversities to work in the insurance industry, for Macon Paper Company, and as owner of Bower's Fina in Cross Keys. He was also a very talented carpenter who helped build several homes in the middle Georgia area.
He married and raised four sons who he was very proud of and very much loved by. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
