Charles was the eldest son on Roland Lee Watson and Clemmie Mintz Watson.

In Jan 1943, Charles enlisted into the US Army Air Corps. He trained as an Aerial Gunner and received his wings in Nov 1943. He was stationed in Italy with the 15th Air Force.

In Jun 1944, His B-17 aircraft was part of the aerial assault on the Ploesti Industrial Complex in Romania. Destroying the oil supply line. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions.

After World War II, Charles served with the United States Air Force in both Korea and Vietnam.

He left the USAF with the rank of Master Sergeant.
