Mr. Zeb O. WHITFORD, 71, died at his home in Pitt County in the Clay Root
community Friday morning at 6:45 following six months of failing health. Funeral
services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3:30 at the Wilkerson Funeral
Chapel by Rev. John CASEY, his pastor, and burial will be in Pinewood Memorial
Park. A masonic service will be conducted at the grave by the members of the
Grifton Masonic Lodge No. 243 A.F. and A.M. Mr. WHITFORD spent most of his life
in Pitt County. A veteran of World War One, he was engaged in farming, and was a
member of the Epworth Methodist Church, the Grifton Masonic Lodge, Greenville
Chapter, No. 50, Royal Arch Masons, Bethlehem Commandery No. 29, Knights
Templar, New Bern Lodge of Perfection No. 6, and Sudan Temple of New Bern.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alice AUTRY WHITFORD; a son, Z. O. WHITFORD, Jr. of
the U.S. Navy, now stationed in Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Bobby STOKES of
near Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Bluma WHITFORD COWARD of New Nern; and five
grandchildren.
