Rhodes, David Noel

David Noel Rhodes beloved husband of the late Maire (Mary), of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at the age of 89 years.

David was born on December 25, 1914 in Pincher Creek, AB. His formative years were spent in Calgary where he attended Crescent Heights High School. David was an avid skier and liked all things with an internal combustion engine, especially motorbikes and cars. At the outbreak of war in 1939, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). As a commissioned officer and navigator in various types of aircraft, he served his tour of duty in the North African and European Theatres. It was while on leave in war torn London that he met and later married, Maire, the beautiful young Welsh girl who became the love of his life. With war's end, David and Maire first settled in eastern Canada, where he worked in aerial ordnance survey and where their beloved daughter, Cheryl, was born. It was shortly after, in Calgary, that David joined Sharp's Theatre Supplies (Sharp's Audio Visual), a company he was with for the rest of his working life. David was a Freemason, keen photographer and a devoted lifelong member of St. Barnabas' Anglican Church. He and Maire were very fond of travel, often with their close friends Elsie Stewart, Art and Muriel Sick, and Joan Munson. David had a profound awareness of the importance of (and love of) family and friends. His most cherished moments were when he was surrounded by Maire, his daughter Cheryl Rhodes-Laws and her husband Michael Laws, his grandchildren, Shelley, Michelle, Paul (Jennifer) and Stephanie (Dinesh); and his great-grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Ryan and Tess. Two of their children, Joy and Scott, predeceased them. David and Maire were briefly separated when Maire passed away two years ago. They are now together again.

A Celebration of David's life will be held at St. Barnabas' Anglican Church (1407 – 7th Avenue N.W.) on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. Graveside Service to follow at the Memorial Gardens adjoining the Church. To forward condolences go to www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
