Rachael T. Poindexter, long-time resident of Prairie View, Texas, died Monday, June 28, 2010. Mrs. Poindexter was born in Kansas City, Kansas and moved to Prairie View, Texas in 1945. Mrs. Poindexter, who earned a bachelor's degree in Economics at Prairie View A&M University, was married for 65 years to Dr. Alfred N. Poindexter, Jr., Prairie View A&M University professor and legendary veterinarian who died in 2006. She had five children, ten grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years, many organizations in Prairie View, including Girl Scouts, Jack & Jill of America, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, benefited from Mrs. Poindexter's involvement. Patient and generous, Mrs. Poindexter was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, god mother, and friend. She gave love and was loved unconditionally and will be greatly missed. Visitation with the Poindexter family is Thursday, July 1, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, Prairie View, Texas. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Omega Service begins at 7:00 PM. The funeral service is Friday, July 2, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Prairie View, Texas. Graveside services will follow at the Prairie View A&M University Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the Poindexter family requests contributions to the St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church Altar Guild.
