Vincent Edward Bonczek of Fairhaven, Mass, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Bedford Village Nursing Home in New Bedford, Mass at age 96. He was born May 1, 1913 in Dudley, MA, one of eight children of Stanislaus A. and Mary Ann (Poczatek) Bonczek. His wife, Frances P. (Stalec) Bonczek of Fairhaven, born March 1, 1919, died Jan 8, 2002 at age 82.

Vincent spent his early years in Dudley and Webster, moving to Fairhaven in 1955. He was WWII US Navy Veteran, served on the USS PANAMINT (AGC-13) his tour from May 1, 1944 to May 1, 1946. He worked in various textile mills in New Bedford, Fall River and CT and in the Fairhaven school system as a custodian. Mr. Bonczek was a lifetime member of the Polish American Veterans of New Bedford where he was a State Adjutant and Officer, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 166 in Fairhaven, an honorary member of the St. Casimir Seniors and a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Fairhaven. He played guitar and harmonica and also repaired violins and cellos.

He and his wife, Mary, also born in Poland, immigrated to the US in 1900. They owned their home on New Boston Rd, Dudley, Mass. In 1930, Stanley and his 4 oldest sons worked in the Cotton mill

VINCENT'S FUNERAL was Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at St. Mary's Church, Main St., Fairhaven, Mass. Arrangements by Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by a funeral Mass at 11am in Visiting hours Tuesday 4-7pm. Burial in River-Side Cemetery.
