Jacob L. "Jake" Boyer, 81 of Prairie View, Texas departed this life on Thursday, March 13, 2003. He was a graduate of Prairie View A&M University in the Class of 1943 with Bachelor and Master's degrees and was employed by the university in the Food Services Dept., becoming the department's head. He laid the foundation for business development in the City of Prairie View; served as treasurer of the Prairie View Federal Credit Union, also became the owner/operator of the Super Save Food Market; operator of the Freeze King; owner of the Gablese Enterprise Automobile Service Station and owner of Boyer Rentals. He was elected to the Prairie View City Council and served for several terms including Mayor Pro-Tem. Served in numerous organizations such as being member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, PVAMU National Alumni Association, Prairie View Chamber of Commerce and other organizations. Preceded in death by both parents and grandson, Jason Matthew Boyer. Survivors include his wife, Helen Shelby Boyer; two sons, John Jacob of Prairie View, Texas and Edward Eugene of Denver, Colorado; three grandchildren: James, Jasmine and Dante. Wake services on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at the Johnson-Phillips All-Faiths Chapel on the campus of Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral services on Thursday, March 20, 2003 at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 300 Dooley Street, Prairie View, Texas at 10:00am.
