Proctor, Richard Heath Sr.,age 92, of Winter Park, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 7, 2013. Dick was born in New York, NY on April 24, 1921, to Willis Heath and Eve Proctor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy, in 2005, and is survived by his brother Jonathan H. Proctor, daughter, Penny Beebe, and son, Richard Heath Proctor, Jr. (Karen), and four grandchildren, Casey Beebe (Chad), Richard Heath Proctor, III, Samuel Heath Beebe (Viki), and William Bartlett Proctor (Ainsley), and one great-grandchild, Oliver Heath Odwazny-Beebe. Dick spent his early years in Coral Gables, FL and Bridgewater, MA, and later was the president of the class of '39 at Mamaroneck (NY) High School. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1943, Dick served in the Navy in World War II. Following the war, Dick married Lucy MacPherson of Scarsdale, NY, in 1945, and shortly thereafter moved from NYC to Gulfport, FL, and began his career in retailing. In 1948, Dick and his family moved to Winter Park and soon opened The Proctor Shops on Park Avenue, which were merged into the Jacobson's Stores in the early 70's. He became actively involved in the community, serving on a variety of Winter Park city boards and participating in local and national Republican politics. Dick was a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, the Winter Park Hospital Foundation Board, the Barnett Bank Board, and the Combank Board. He was also a founding member and past president of the Winter Park Racquet Club, a member of the Country Club of Orlando, and Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park, and a member of the Winter Park Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed a second career in real estate with Florida Ranchlands. Dick was passionate about music, particularly jazz, having been the drummer in his own band in the late 30's. He was both an avid tennis player and golfer. He was a history buff and loved to travel; he and Lucy took many US and European trips together, advised many friends on travel tips, and adventured to Asia in their later years. Dick was an absolutely devoted family man, whether hosting summer gatherings at a second home in New Hampshire, or boating on the lakes of Winter Park with his grandchildren. In 1999, he hosted all of the men of the family on a trip to Ireland for a great week of golf. Dick will be remembered as a great husband, a loving father and grandfather, and wonderful friend to many.
