Asleep in Jesus—On Monday, March 14, 1921 at 11:10 p.m. James B. Cotten, formerly of Miller County, Missouri, but at the time of his death a resident of Oilton, Oklahoma.
The funeral services of James B. Cotten, Civil War veteran, were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, March 17, 1921 by Rev. L. L. Scott, interment at Oilton Cemetery. Bro. Cotten made a host of friends during his stay in Oilton, which was shown by their kind service and sympathy during his short illness and the many beautiful floral remembrances that covered his casket and the large procession which followed him to his last resting place.
Besides those friends who feel so deeply the loss of a real Christian man, are those in his home county, together with his very near and dear relatives who with sad and aching hearts feel that the sting of death has reached them and taken a dear loving brother and friend from them.
J. B. Cotten had been a member of the Baptist Church for a number of years and lived a true Christian life to his death. He had been very feeble for several years but was able to be up most of the time. On Saturday, March 12th, he was suddenly seized with pneumonia and died the following Monday night, aged 73 years, 11 months and 20 days. His children were all present but Mrs. John Compton. He leaves his wife and five children, three brothers and two sisters, to mourn his loss.
