Doris Lucille Wimberly, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister died on Friday, January 11, 2008, after a brief and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Doris, the oldest of seven children was born on December 16, 1926, in New Braunsfels, Texas, to Samuel Estal Sims and Esterie Hitzfeld. She attended school in Johnson City and graduated from high school in Marble Falls in 1945. She married Othal Clayton (O.C.) Wimberly in 1945. After the war, Doris and O.C. worked side by side raising their three sons and building their future from the ground up. When the boys were all in school, she went to work full time for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission where she worked for many years. In the late 70's she retired from the State in order to pursue a second career in real estate and she distinguished herself as a successful realtor. Doris enjoyed numerous years of volunteering in the Neo Natal unit at Seton Hospital. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed living on the beautiful award winning pecan farm that O.C., Doris and their boys built together with years of hard work and dedication. She was an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook. She loved to cook for her family and we shared many fun times with her around the kitchen table. Doris is survived by her husband of 63 years, O.C. Wimberly; her sons, Steve, Barry and Larry, daughters-in-law, Nancy, Nina and Billie, grandchildren Craig, Jenny, Turner, Clayton, and Laura, and great-granddaughter, Mary Bell Wimberly. She is also survived by a sister, Jody DeLeon of San Antonio; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Doris lived her life with style and grace. She enriched our lives and we will miss her very much. Services will be held at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Mausoleum, 6300 W. William Cannon, at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008, with visitation from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
