Dr. George B. McNeely, 78, of Bloomington died at 10:53 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 5, 1991) at his home.

He was born Aug. 31, 1912 in Riverton, the son of George and Mabel O'Conner McNeely. He married Elsie C. Katz Aug. 30, 1937 in Covington, Indiana. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, George B. McNeely III and Staff Sgt. Timothy P. McNeely; two daughters, Kristine Marie Messitt and Deborah A. McNeely; one brother, Donald McNeely; one sister, Lucille Winston and 12 grandchildren.

A U.S. Army Air Force veteran, he was a flight surgeon and pilot from 1942 to 1945. He received eight Air Medals, the Medal of European Theater of Operations, six Bronze Star medals, a presidential citation and the European Theater Victory Medal. He was a member of the Society of U.S. Air Force Flight surgeons and was president of the 410th Bomb Group World War II Association in 1989-90.
