Mrs. Emma G. Abell, widow of C. S. Abell Sr., passed away at her home at Second and Bank streets at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, mourned by a large body of friends and relatives. The decedent had been in poor health for several years and her death was not entirely unexpected. Mrs. Abell was fifty-nine years of age and had been a resident of Keokuk for about twenty-five years. Her husband, who has been dead now for seven years, was a well known Keokuk hotel man and was manager of several local hostelries.
The decedent is survived by two children, C.S. Abell of this city, and Mrs. Gertrude Williams of Toledo, Ohio. There are also several grandchildren. The body is now at the home of her son, at 513 North Fifth street, and the funeral will be held from there tomorrow. The services will be conducted by Rev. Frank G. Beardsley and burial will be made in Oakland Cemetery.
Mrs. Abell's maiden name was Emma G. Taylor and she was born of English parentage on May 3 1856, on board a ship in the Atlantic Ocean, which was bound for England from the West Indies. her parents both died when she was young and she came to America when she was ten years old, with relatives that were living here. They first settled in Chicago where later she was married to C. S. Abell. the family lived in Burlington before coming to Keokuk.
