Flop the Basset Hound came to us rather unexpectedly when a daughter couldn't keep her. (Actually her name had been "Flossy", which we thought was a terrible name, so we changed it.) She took up with us right away, and loved being with the other pets we had already. (She could have her moments of jealousy on a rare occasion though.)

She quickly took over the only recliner in the house, and that's where she loved to be. The only thing was that no-one else could sit there, because she wouldn't let them.

Her biggest thrill was to go for a walk. And her favorite companion was Cee Cee the poodle, who would follow her nearly everywhere hanging onto her tail. They were really comical together.

One day when she was about 5 years old, her nose started hemorrhaging just out of the blue. We rushed her to our vet, who determined that she had a tumor in her sinus cavity. She did manage to last another 10 months with his help and with medication.

Towards the last, she couldn't jump up into her favorite chair anymore, though she would sit and stare at it as if she wanted to but was afraid to. She started breathing thru her mouth more, and just looked plain miserable sometimes. We were about ready to see what the vet thought we should do when she went into a seizure one day unexpectedly. At that point, we figured it was time to do what we had hoped we wouldn't have to do. I don't think she even knew.

She broke some hearts, and will be missed very much.
